Day 02 (Saturday) Germany

Munich, Germany

Sylvia and I walked to a bank to try to withdrawn money only to discover the 5 minute walk was actually taking us to a different bank that was ~25 minutes walk each way. And was closed when we got there.

Walked back and met Vix in the lobby. Had the breakfast buffet in the hotel lobby. It was fantastic.

Sylvia and Vix walked to a different bank and got cash.

Walked back to the Rathaus-Glockenspiel/Mareinplatz, where Vix ordered a cheesecake to use some German and then we stood around with the thousand of other tourists, waiting for the 11am clock tower show to begin.

Side note about Munich: We ALWAYS felt like we were going to be run down by bicyclists there. Unlike every other city we went to, there were never any markings to dictated where pedestrians should walk versus where bikes should go. The result (as seen in the image of the bridge crossing above) is that bikes were constantly flying through pedestrians who were using the sidewalk as normal. While California may be a state where pedestrians have the right of way, Munich felt like bikes held that honor.

Walked to the German Museum and toured the aviation, electronics, musical instruments, and cryptology exhibits

Went back to the Viktualienmarkt and waited in line for one of the recommendations Sylvia had found, only to find the line too long. She bought some amazing pastries.

Went for lunch at a restaurant the concierge had recommended: Wirtshaus in der Au for some dumplings. It was fantastic German food.

Back to the hotel, we ate the pastries and chilled out, made plans for the following day, which will be a big one.

Sylvia and I walked north, through a light rain to the Friedensengel column, sort of aimlessly checking out a direction we’d yet to explore.

While looking for a way to cross a street, we discovered an underground street crossing filled with cool graffiti.

Returned to the hotel and the three of us ate at the hotel restaurant, Flave. Sylvia and I had burgers (bacon is called “speck” here) and Vix had ravioli. I ordered a whiskey sour and it was unbelievably over sweet.

Very restless sleep

(Sylvia logged nearly 30,000 steps this day, I logged 26,685 steps)
